This paper dealt with the problem of , which is the main attribute of text, centering on the unit of paragraph. Two research hypotheses were proposed, and the main sentence presentation, the main sentence position, and the semantic relations between the paragraphs were discussed according to the genre of the writing and the language performance level of the learner.
There was no difference in the ratio of presentation of the main sentence between the explanation and the editorial according to the genre, but the rate of presentation of the main sentence according to the level was higher in the group of the students having a significantly higher level. In other words, it can be seen that the higher group of learners implemented well the main sentence of the paragraph in all the genres than the lower learners.
The position of the main sentence according to the genre was found to be different for the higher group and for the lower group. The position of the main sentence according to the level was different among all groups. This is also true of the semantic relationship between paragraphs. In other words, it can be said that the excellent group learners constructed the semantic relations between the positions of the main sentences and the paragraphs in each genre based on the existing writing customs, the so - called rhetorical framework.
