‘保, 傅’의 同源 관계 연구 = A Study on the Cognate Relationship between 保 (bǎo) and 傅 (fù)

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Two or more words are considered to be in a cognate relationship when their phonetics and meanings are similar or identical. Bofu (保傅) refers to an official position in ancient China, responsible for educating and caring for princes or upper-class women and children, and is said to be the origin of the modern term for nanny. Looking at the Old Chinese pronunciations of 保 (bǎo) and 傅 (fù), 保 belongs to the 幇紐幽部 (*bāng group in the yōu rhyme category), and 傅 belongs to the 幇紐魚部 (*bāng group in the yú rhyme category), showing that 保 and 傅 have similar sounds due to their bāng initial consonants and yōu-yú vowel transitions. Examining the meanings of 保 and 傅, both words convey the sense of "teaching," which shows that they share the same meaning. Additionally, through the word 母 (mǔ, 明紐之部), which is cognate with 保 and 傅, the cognate relationship between these words is confirmed. It was also discovered that 堡 is cognate with 保, while 輔 and 附 are cognates of 傅.
