하늘유치원 만 5세아의 읽기･쓰기에 대한 문화기술적 연구 = An Ethnographic Study of 5-year-old Children’s Reading and Writing in Haneul Kindergarten

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study used ethnographic research methods to analyze children’s reading and writing during their daily routines, and their behavioral characteristics in a kindergarten. Participants were 28 five-year-old children and 2 teachers. Study results were as follows. First, children read and wrote to distinguish, or communicate with each other, share information, and express their own thoughts in free-choice activities as well as group activities during their daily routines. Second, behavioral characteristics of children’s reading and writing included copying letters, competing with others, sharing each other’s knowledge or information, helping each other, expressing self-confidence or feelings of burden, and interfering with their peers' reading and writing processes. Children engaged in reading and writing due to the needs of communal living, play, and group activities in interest center. Various social interactions among peers, and self-evaluation during reading and writing appeared to improve children’s reading and writing abilities. This study indicates areas for further research on peer interaction during reading and writing in interest center.
