This study begins with the question "How does the Daehaeng -Seon succeed the Buddha's ideas and practices?" That is, putting the Buddha's thoughts and practices at the center of the discussion and finding answers to how the Daehaeng-Seon tried to succeed them. Depending on the perspective of a researcher who understands the Buddhist spirit, various aspects of the Buddhist spirit found in the Daehaeng-Seon are interpreted. Since the identity of Daehaeng-Seon is found in the term “Hanmaem(one mind)/ Juingong(Main Character)”, the main theme of this study is that it is necessary to discuss the Buddhist spirit of Daehaeng-Seon using the term ‘self-concept’. It is because the oneself will be the subject who begins to perform and experiences enlightenment. However, the notion of ‘Hanmaem(one mind)/Juingong(Main Character)’ seems to imply an absolute/substantial subject and can be criticized for being out of line with the early Buddhist anattan(“not unchangeable self”) of theory. Therefore, it is an effective approach to discuss this topic by addressing the problems of self and not-self that have emerged in earlier Buddhist scriptures. In this article, the focus was on identifying the meaning and value of the compatibility with “self/not-self” concept from the perspective of enlightenment and performance. I noted the spirit of reflect on oneself affirms the subject that leads first to performance and enlightenment. So, I paid attention to “not unchangeable self of theory”(無我說) and he sought to connect with the spirit of “self-reliant”(自燈明), especially when he was looking at the practical nature of “not-self”. The Buddhist spirit found in the “self-reliant”(自燈明) is understood to mean that it becomes a person who plans and practices his or her own life without preconditions. Furthermore, the Board presented the significance in that it is a 'self-positive/trust type' that makes the performance path walk on its own. Next, about the practical meaning of “not-self”, first of all, of not having a sense of ownership in the subject being experienced. Second, in the process of recognition, must be faced the moment when the thought of “I do something”, Third, I discussed the reasons and conditions for practicing “not-self” to pay attention to the ever-changing component of self.
