The purpose of this study was to develop the force transducer with load-cell to measure the forces acting on the pedal of bicycle. Three national bicycle road racer were served as subjects. They were asked to run the bicycle at the speed of 38km/h and muscle moment of lower extremities was calculated by the variation of the saddle heights.
The obtained results from this study were as follows,
1. The vertical force action on the pedal showed the maximum, 347N at the angle of 111(±3)˚, and the higher the height of saddle, the greater the vertical force. The anteroposterior force was 75.1N at the angle of 54.3(±2.8)˚, in H-1 condition. The rear pulling force was 27.8N at the angle of 211(±1)˚, in H condition.
2. The maximum muscle moments of the ankle and knee joints were 46.5N and 31.6N in H-1 condition, where we could observe the peak vertical force acting on the pedal.
3. The muscle moment of the hip joint revealed the negative peak value -16.7N at the 91.7˚(H condition), and the positive peak value at the angle of 248.7˚(H-1 condition)
4. The force transducer to measure the forces acting on the pedal was approved its applicability for evaluating the muscle moment of the lower legs by the variation of the saddle heights.
