인턴십 프로그램 경험이 대학생 진로발달에 영향을 미치는 요인에 관한 질적 사례연구 = A Qualitative Case Study on the Effect of Internship Program Experience on Career Development of College Students

This study is a qualitative case study of elements in internship program that influence career development of college students. Ten college students who experienced internship program were interviewed individually for the study. To achieve the goal of the research, previous research was analyzed in order to establish the research viewpoint on internship program experience and career development of college students. According to the career development theory of Super(1990), college belongs to the occupational development state in which people make specific choices of professions they like and complete the self-concept with their job. Therefore, career development of college students requires specific behaviors, that is, career preparation behaviors that allow them to prepare to acquire the job they need and choose an occupation rationally and properly. In this study, it was assumed that internship program experience is part of practical career preparation, which is an important developmental task during college, and results in development of cognitive career thinking and career development competence. Also, career development of college students was seen from the decision-making point of view to decide the career, and based on the career decision-making process proposed by Harren(1979) that consists of awareness, planning, commitment, and implementation. From this viewpoint, elements of internship program that influence career development of college students were analyzed based on qualitative case study, and, first, satisfaction with major had an effect. In cases with low satisfaction with major, career decision-making aspects in the career awareness stage was found in the internship program experience. However, in cases with high satisfaction with major, career decision-making aspects of the commitment stage were found. Second, satisfaction with the career service at college had an effect. In cases with low satisfaction with the career service at college, career decision-making aspects in the career awareness stage was found in the internship program experience. However, in cases with high satisfaction with the career service at college, career decision-making aspects of the commitment stage were found. Third, satisfaction with major and career service at college had profound correlation with 'career maturity' and had an effect on career development of college students through internship program experience. Therefore, this study suggested, in order for internship programs to be operated as an effective career education program, a career program must be provided before so that students who participate in internship programs can improve career maturity beforehand, and a system for college student career education must be established so that career education programs for development of cognitive and emotional career thinking.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 인턴십 프로그램 경험이 대학생 진로발달에 영향을 미치는 요인에 대해 탐구해보고자 한 질적 사례연구이다. 이를 위해 인턴십 프로그램을 경험한 대학생 10명을 대상으로 하여 개별 심층면담을 실시하여 질적 연구를 수행하였다. 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위해 선행연구 분석을 통해 인턴십 프로그램 경험과 대학생 진로발달에 관한 연구의 관점을 정립하였다. 대학생 시기는 Super(1990)의 진로발달이론에 따르면 자신이 좋아하는 직업에 대해 구체적인 선택을 하고, 직업에서 자아개념을 완성해가는 진로발달단계에 해당된다. 따라서 대학생 진로발달은 자신에게 필요한 직업 획득하기 위한 준비와 이를 바탕으로 합리적이고 올바른 직업 선택을 할 수 있는 구체적인 행동, 즉 진로준비행동의 실천이 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 인턴십 프로그램 경험이 대학생 시기의 주요한 진로발달 과업인 실천적 진로준비행동의 일환으로서 인지적 진로사고의 발달과 진로개발역량을 강화하는 진로발달을 가져온다고 보았다. 또한 대학생 진로발달을 진로의사를 결정해나가는 의사결정의 관점에서 보았으며, Harren(1979)이 제안한 인식, 계획, 확신, 이행의 진로의사결정 과정으로 진로발달을 보았다. 이와 같은 연구의 관점에서 인턴십 프로그램 경험을 통한 대학생 진로발달에 영향을 미치는 요인에 대해 질적 사례연구 방법을 통해 분석한 결과, 첫째, 전공만족도가 영향을 미치고 있었다. 전공만족도가 낮게 나타난 사례에서는 인턴십 프로그램 경험을 통해 진로인식 단계의 의사결정 양상이 나타났다. 반면, 전공만족도가 높은 사례에서는 인턴십 프로그램 경험을 통해 확신 단계의 진로의사결정 양상이 나타났다. 둘째, 대학의 진로 서비스 만족도가 영향을 미치고 있었다. 대학의 진로 서비스에 대한 만족도가 낮게 나타난 사례에서는 인턴십 프로그램 경험을 통해 진로인식 단계의 의사결정 양상이 나타났다. 반면, 대학의 진로 서비스에 대해 만족도가 높은 사례에서는 인턴십 프로그램 경험을 통해 진로의사결정의 확신을 갖는 양상이 나타났다. 셋째, 전공만족도와 대학의 진로 서비스에 대한 만족도는 ‘진로성숙도’와 깊은 관계성을 갖고 인턴십 프로그램 경험을 통한 대학생 진로발달에 영향을 미치고 있었다. 이에 본 연구에서는 인턴십 프로그램이 대학생 진로발달에 있어 효과적인 진로교육 프로그램으로 운영되기 위해서는 대학생들이 인턴십 프로그램에 참여하기에 앞서 진로성숙도를 높일 수 있도록 하는 진로 프로그램이 선행될 필요가 있으며, 전공 연계 진로교육의 필요성과 인지적, 정서적 진로 사고의 발달을 위한 진로교육 프로그램과 실천적 진로준비행동인 인턴십 프로그램이 함께 통합적이고 총체적으로 관리, 운영되는 대학생 진로교육 운영 체제 구축이 필요함을 제언하였다.
