린이푸의 중국사회의 발전과 정체를 보는 관점에 대한 고찰 = Contributions and Limitations of Lin Yifu's Development Hypothesis

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 글은 농업경제학자이자 베이징대학 교수로서 세계은행 부총재를 역임한 린이푸의 중국사회의 발전과 정체에 관한 가설에 관심을 집중하여, 그의 관점이 갖는 의미와 한계를 분석하였다. 린은 끊임없는 연구 작업을 통해 중국사회의 정체와 발전 문제에 대한 우리의 이해 폭을 확장시켜 주었으며, 이 점은 본문에서 살펴본 세 편의 글을 통해서도 잘 확인할 수 있다. 그의 연구는 우리의 주제와 관련된 수많은 식민주의적이거나 감상주의적인 성향의 소모적인 담론을 무력하게 한다. 또한 린이 제기한 발견발명에 대한 구분, 즉 경험적·우연적 발견발명과 실험적 발견발명의 차이에 대한 구분 역시 우리에게 더 객관적이고 더 깊은 이해를 가능하게 한다는 점에서 높이 평가할 만하다. 그러나 그의 가설의 학술적 공헌에도 불구하고, 린의 가설을 보면 시기에 따라 논리가 혼란스러운 측면도 함께 발견된다. 이 글에서 분석대상으로 삼고 있는 세편의 연구성과 중에서도, 어느 때는 제도주의적 입장을 보이고, 또 어느 때는 마르크스주의적 입장과 문화주의적 입장을 결합하는 주장을 펴기도 한다. 또한 그는 어느 경우에는 신고전파적 시각을 보이기도 한다. 만약 관련 요소들이 모두 중요하다고 한다면, 이는 우리의 토론을 무의미하게 할 가능성도 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고 린이푸의 학술적 공헌은 적지 않은 의미를 갖는다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Needham and Weber proposed Puzzles, called 'Needham Puzzles' and 'Weber Question', which was not only for themselves but for other sinologists. Originally the puzzles was built for interpreting the stagnation factors during pre-modern societies of China. And the hypothesis proposed for solve the puzzles used to applied to argue the development or stagnation factors both of economic performances of China and East Asia NIEs after the 2nd World War. Many sinologists have been defied the Puzzles by now. Among them, renowned Chinese economist Lin Yifu's efforts are. This paper analyzes the Lin's logics explaining the core factors of development or stagnation. For this, we select and analyze Lin's three main articles related to our theme. In first article, Lin emphasizes socio-political institution, namely ‘Guageojae’, which results in economic stagnation. In the second article, he stresses on the production power(technology and science). And in the third article, he back up strategy and policy. In Marxist words, according to Lin's logics, one article says base structure regulates upper structure, other article says upper structure determines base structure. In short, there is some logical inconsistency among his three articles. It is true that there is a little defects in Lin's logic on explaining the main factor of development or stagnation. In spite of the defects, however, we can not deny that his endeavors to solve the Puzzles help us to widen our horizon for understanding the factors of development or stagnation.
