한국 노인의 문화자본과 사회자본 = Cultural Capital and Social Capital of the Korean Elderly

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper investigates the descriptive statistics of cultural capital and social capital and their effects on income and life satisfaction based on a survey dataset of Seoul and Chuncheon residents of age 65 or above. Cultural capital and social capital are kinds of non-economic capital, which respectively are defined herein as the incorporated familiarity with high culture and the relationship with the non-kin trusting ones, according to recent research trends. Although research concerning non-economic capital is increasing, its application to the elderly is yet to be accumulated. While capital of any form may generate financial profit, this research additionally hypothesizes that cultural and social capitals are non-economic factors directly affecting life satisfaction. Multiple regression analyses show that cultural capital and social capital positively affect income and life satisfaction directly, leading to a conclusion that old age continuously allows each of them to function as both capital and life-satisfying factor. Path analyses using age, cultual capital, social capital, income, and life satisfaction by select binomial variables suggest that distinct sub-groups exist within the old population. Such results imply for the Korean elderly that the effect of non-economic capital is worth further research and that, as was previously indicated, consideration of diverse sub-populations within the elderly need be stressed.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 노년기의 문화자본과 사회자본에 대한 기초 분석과 더불어 그 두 변인이 수입과 삶의 만족도에 주는 영향을 경험적으로 고찰하기 위해 서울과 춘천에 거주하는 65세 이상의 노인들을 대상으로 실시한 조사 자료를 분석하였다. 문화자본과 사회자본은 경제력에 영향을 주는 이른바 비경제적 자본의 하위 개념으로서, 이 연구에서는 최근의 연구 경향을 따라 각각 고급 문화에 대한 체화된 친숙도와 신뢰자와의 관계를 중심으로 정의하고, 노년기 삶의 만족도에 영향을 주는 비경제적 요인으로 도입하였다. 문화자본, 사회자본 등의 비경제적 자본에 대한 연구는 늘고 있으나 그러한 연구를 본격적으로 노인에 적용한 것은 아직 그리 많지 않은 듯하다. 다중회귀분석 결과는 문화자본과 사회자본이 경제력과 삶의 만족도에 긍정적인 영향을 주는 것으로 드러나, 두 요인이 노년기에도 자본의 일종으로 기능하며 삶의 만족도 역시 높임을 발견하였다. 또한 나이, 문화자본, 사회자본, 총월수입 및 삶의 만족도를 성별, 취업여부별, 거주환경별 및 지역별로 경로분석한 결과, 비경제적 자본들이 고령층 내부의 각 하위집단에 대해 다른 방식으로 기능함도 발견되었다. 이 연구의 함의는 젊을 때에 비해 경제력이 약화된 노인을 대상으로 비경제적 자본의 효과를 더욱 심층적으로 연구할 가치가 있으며, 일부 선행 연구가 밝힌 대로 고령층 내부 집단의 다양성을 고려하는 시각이 노년학 연구에서 중요하다는 것이다.
