한국인의 성별 및 교육수준별 이혼 패턴에 관한 연구 = Gender and Educational Differences in Divorce in South Korea

Using the Korean Labor and Income Panel Study(KLIPS), this study analyzes the dynamics of gender and educational differences in divorce in South Korea. First, the results indicate that the effect of education varies across birth cohorts for men. Compared to the older birth cohort(1930~1949), the effect of education becomes stronger among the recent birth cohort(1950~1969). Second, while men with higher education show significantly lower risks of divorce than poorly educated men, women's divorce risks significantly vary across marital duration. Women's education impedes marital dissolution in the early stage of the marital life course but, as marriages age, the effect of women's education on the risk of divorce turns positive. Finally, for both men and women, the divorce risks over marital duration significantly differ across birth cohorts. Compared to the older birth cohort(1930~1949), the recent birth cohort(1950~1969) shows the risk of divorce initially increasing and decreasing during the latter part of the observation period.
