Siamese rosewood (Dalbergia cochinchinensis) was listed in CITES regulation appendix II under trade restrictions by CITES. There are around 26 species of Dalbergia in Thailand. Due to the Chinese high demand for rosewood, the price is increasing astronomically and thus leading to heavy illegal logging in the country. In this context, this paper reviews the rosewood value chain in Thailand by identifying core issues and mapping the chain link to the international market. The review examines the opportunities and challenges in the rosewood value chain within Thailand and internationally. This study indicated that the amended laws and regulations to support timber trade for economic growth in Thailand and deal with illegal logging are an excellent way to increase market competition and ensure environmental quality.
