조선중앙TV 비주얼 프레임 변화 연구 -남북정상회담 보도를 중심으로- = A Study on the Visual Frame Changes of Korea Central TV -Focusing on Inter-Korean Summit news-

This study explores the visual frame of Korea Central TV"s the inter-Korean summit broadcasting coverage. The first step is to derive the visual frme characteristics of the coverage of the inter-Korean summit on Korea Central TV through the analysis period from the first from June 13 to 15, 2000, the second from October 2 to 4, 2007, the third from April 27 to 28, 2018, the fourth in May 26 to 27, and the fifth from the September 18 to 21. A total of 4,438 cuts, including 1,860 reporting cuts and 2,578 movie reporting cuts, were analyzed by video structural elements, video expression techniques, visual thematic frame analysis, and article cuts analysis. In the next step, 14 visual thematic frames derived through an inductive research method on all cuts were structured into 6 integrated frames, and 2 contextual frames(keeping regime frames, and trying change frames), and a visual frame analyses, including frequency analysis, content analysis, and visual thematic analysis, are conducted.
As a result of the analysis, Korea Central TV highlighted Kim Jong-un's personal characteristics based on the supreme leader frame and cultivated the greatness of the young and active supreme leader. Second, Korea Central TV emphasized the image of a normal country through Ri Sol-ju by using the first lady's highlight frame. Third, Korea Central TV's coverage rate, broadcasting rate, and current affairs (fast news) of the inter-Korean summit decreased. Fourth, Korea Central TV expanded the use of a frame seeking change, but also strengthened the keeping regime frames. Fifth, Korea Central TV attempted to use various screens, but anecdotally reported the inter-Korean summit.
This study is the first to focus on the visual frames of the Korea Central TV reports, and it is meaningful to provide an opportunity to identify how the Korea Central TV frames important historical events on the Korean Peninsula and to structure the characteristics of the Korea Central TV visual frames. In addition, by systematizing the research method of the Korea Central TV"s visual frame, it provides an analytical framework for how to interpret the Korea Central TV broadcasting reports on inter-Korean events in the future and has practical usefulness that can be used in subsequent research.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

미디어에 의한 현실 구성은 현실을 모두 경험할 수 없고 현실을 총체적으로 파악하는 것이 불가능하다는 인식에 바탕을 두고 있다. 미디어가 사회적 이슈를 제기하고 현실을 해석할 수 있는 틀을 제시함으로써 사회적 의미를 만든다는 프레임의 개념에 기인하고 있다. 뉴미디어의 발달로 동영상의 중요성이 증가하는 가운데 접근이 제한돼 있는 북한에 대한 정보를 얻을 수 있는 수단으로 미디어가 활용되고 있다. 우리가 알고 이해하는 북한 관련 뉴스는 미디어가 북한을 바라보고 의미를 부여하는 틀에 따라 달라질 수밖에 없는데 북한 미디어의 영상에 대한 학술적 연구가 현실적으로 많지 않다.
본 연구는 조선중앙TV의 남북정상회담에 대한 비주얼 프레임을 탐구하였다. 첫 번째 단계로 1차에서 5차까지 남북정상회담 기간 조선중앙TV가 보도한 남북정상회담 관련 기사 80개와 영화보도 5편을 분석대상으로 삼았다. 분석 대상 기사의 화면 컷은 중복된 것을 제외하고 보도 컷 1,860개와 영화보도 2,578개 등 모두 4,438개의 보도 양상 분석과 영상 구조적 요소 분석, 영상 표현 기법 분석, 시각적 주제 프레임 분석, 보도 내용 분석을 통해 조선중앙TV 남북정상회담 보도의 비주얼 프레임 특성을 도출하였다. 다음 단계로 전체 컷에 대한 귀납적 연구 방법을 통해 도출된 시각적 주제 프레임 14개를 각각의 특성별로 유목화하여 통합 프레임 6개로 나누었다. 또한, 맥락적 프레임 2개로 유목화하여 남북정상회담에 대한 비주얼 프레임을 확인하였고, 빈도 분석과 내용 분석, 시각적 주제 프레임 분석 등 비주얼 프레임 분석을 실시하였다.
분석 결과 조선중앙TV는 남북정상회담을 보도하면서 최고 영도자 프레임과 영부인 부각 프레임을 활용해 최고 지도자 김정은을 강조하였다. 또한, 대통령 활용 프레임과 동등 프레임 등의 활용도를 높여 남북 협력 증대와 국제관계 개선에 대한 의지를 표명하였다. 결국 변화 모색적 프레임을 적극적으로 사용했지만 최고 지도자에 대한 위대성 교양과 영부인 이미지를 사용한 정상국가로의 변화를 시도하였다. 이와 함께 방송 촬영 기술의 발달로 다양한 화면 사용을 시도했지만 보도의 질을 높이고 검열을 강화하면서 조선중앙TV의 시사성(속보성)은 떨어졌다.
본 연구는 조선중앙TV 보도의 비주얼 프레임에 초점을 맞춘 첫 연구로서 조선중앙TV가 한반도의 중요한 역사적 사건을 어떻게 틀 짓는지를 확인하고 조선중앙TV 비주얼 프레임의 특성을 구조화할 수 있는 기회를 마련하였다. 둘째, 각 시기별, 정권별 비주얼 프레임의 변화를 통해 비주얼 프레임과 각 사건의 관계성을 도출하는 후속연구의 필요성을 제기하였다. 셋째, 조선중앙TV의 비주얼 프레임 연구 방법을 체계화하여 향후 남북관계를 보도하는 조선중앙TV 화면을 어떻게 해석할 것인가에 대한 분석틀을 제공해 후속 연구에서도 활용할 수 있는 실천적 유용성을 지녔다.
