What makes Manchuria important in the late Japanese Imperialism is the fact that its ruling strategies and management methods towards the colonies can be extremely revealed through Manchuria. The travels of Manchuria at that time were generally written on the basis of personal experiences. However, they could be archives that disclosed various responses of Korean writers, for they were not free from the ideologies of the time. The travels for Manchuria are mainly classified into the travels in the cities and the reclaimed areas of farms by train. The city travels by rail most vividly described the outcome of colonization and conquest. In the meantime, they also showed contradictions of the dominant imperialistic ideology. New Order of East Asia, which Japanese Imperialism had designed with purpose to overcome capitalism or western modernism, could be actually realized only through capitalistic conquest and colonization and this shows typical inconsistency of Japanese colonialism. Those who traveled the rural areas can be devied according as whether they understood this area as a space of settlement and production, or the living space for survival. Undoubtedly, the writers could not feel free from a productive perspective, which was dominant ideology of the day. Instead, they had opportunities to discover the differences that were not subsumed within the dominant discourses by facing the true lives of Choseon emigrants. Through the discourses of Manchuria in the late Japanese Imperialism, we can identify the ideology of colonialism, and scrutinize its inconsistencies.
