What a diversity of opinion!
A well-known chemist' categorically denies that there is any interaction between philosophy and science; a prominent medievalist maintains that science is the chief incentive of philosophy, a leading physicist claims that philosophy decisively inspired science, and a distinguished metaphysician emphatically affirms that there is a mutual interaction between philosophy and science.
If, in addition, we recall that some claim that science has no meta-physical presuppositions but does have philosophical implications while others maintain that the converse is true ─ claims which are stronger than those made by Randall and Heisenberg, respectively ─ we realize that all possible combinations of denial and affirmation have indeed been espoused.
