‘동’과 ‘서’ 사이에서

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Using both synchronic and diachronic approaches, this paper examines the geopolitical significance of Belarus and its diplomatic strategies in the newly developed Post-Soviet political environment in Europe. In particular, it focuses on analyzing strategies that Belarus has chosen for its survival and future prosperity in the era of changing geopolitical and geo-economical conditions since the creation of Post-Soviet power vacuum.
For Belarus, it is necessary to increase diplomatic flexibility in order to protect its sovereignty against foreign countries’ diplomatic offences and to achieve social integration through economic progress. Belarus will need to focus on ‘external balancing’ which will offset pressures from those foreign countries by analyzing closely policies of superpowers, such as the U.S.A., Russia and European Union, which approach the country for their own interests. In addition, the paper argues that Belarus has to employ a ‘multi-vector, multi-faceted foreign policy’ that would enhance multiple-cooperation with both neighboring countries and ones beyond the regional boundary.
