감사 성향이 도덕적 행동에 미치는 영향 = Some Effects of Gratitude Disposition on Moral Behavior

국문 초록 (Abstract)

동?서양을 막론하고 철학자, 신학자, 작가들은 한 인간이 갖춰야 할 핵심 덕목으로 ``모든 것에 감사하는 삶의 태도’를 강조해 왔다. 또한 감사는 삶을 보다 풍요롭게 하는 신비한 힘이 있 으며 사회에서 중요한 가치를 가진 덕목으로 인식되어 왔다. 그렇지 만 감사의 의미가 구체적으로 무엇이며, 어떤 특성이 있는지 그리고 감사가 인간의 긍정적인 삶에서 어떻게 역할하고 있는지에 대해 연 구가 증가하게 된 것은 20세기 중엽 이후 긍정 심리학이 활발하게 논의되면서부터이다. 본 연구에서는 감사에 대한 윤리학적, 심리학 적 관점을 살펴봄으로써 감사의 의미와 본질 그리고 감사가 이루어 지는 과정을 탐구하였고, 이러한 것들이 감사 성향을 함양하는데 주는 시사점을 찾아보았다. 감사는 도덕적 행동에 대한 반응이며, 도덕적 행동을 촉진한다. 호의의 수혜자는 호의의 제공자가 수혜자의안녕을 증진하는 방식으로 행동하게 될 때 감사를 표출한다. 수혜자는 또한 자신들이 감사를 느낄 때 다른 사람의 안녕을 증진하는 방식으로 행동하게 된다. 결국 제공자에 대해 감사를 표현하는 것은제공자가 장래에 친사회적으로 행동하도록 더욱 자극하게 된다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

For all ages and countries, moral philosopher, theologians, and writers have emphasized gratitude as the core virtues which all human beings must have. And they also have identified gratitude as both basic and desirable aspects of human character and social life. Until recently, researchers have had very little to offer in the way of insights into the meaning and nature of gratitude, its characteristics, and its moral implication. The purpose of this study has two as follows. First it was to examine the meaning and nature of gratitude, the mechanism of gratitude expression, and two aspects of gratitude(moral affect and moral virtue) through the existing theoretical and empirical works on gratitude. Second was to find out some implication to promote gratitude disposition of children. The important findings of this study can be summarized in the following manner: Gratitude is both a response to moral behavior and a motivator of moral behavior. Beneficiaries respond with gratitude when benefactors behave in a way that promote the beneficiaries` well-being. Beneficiaries also act in ways that promote the well-being of benefactors when they themselves have been made grateful. Finally, expressing gratitude to one`s benefactors stimulates the benefactors to have morally and prosocially in the future.
