In 2013, Chinese president Xi Jinping proposed One Belt and One Road Development Initiative at the Asia-Africa international conference,in which OFDI (Outward Foreign Direct Investment) is a core policy. This paper first analyzed the development history of OFDI in Korea which had been away for 40 years earlier than China, its internal motivation and successful experiences. Secondly, it studied the internal and external motivations and development history and problems existed of OFDI in China. Finally, made a comparison of the internal, external motivations and investment characteristics between OFDI in Korea and China, and discussed the complementarities of them.
Based on the comparative study of OFDI between Korea and China, this paper analyzed the characteristics and complementarities of two countries’ foreign investment, which can provide a basic gist for the strategic cooperation in the OFDI field, and take great practical references for enhancing the win-win exchange of foreign investment and strengthening the economic relationship between Korea and China. The research methods of this paper include historical experience method, literature argument method and comparative summary method. The Korean argument data is uniformly adopted the Export-Import Bank of Korea, and Chinese data is processed according to the National Bureau of Statistics of China and the government work report.
