북한군 제8사단의 제4차 전역 준비와 수리산-마산 전투 = Preparation for the 4th Campaign of the 8th Division of the North Korean Army and the Battle of Surisan-Masan

Among the various methods of studying the Korean War, the study of the North Korean Army is essential. However, research is also difficult because of the difficulty in obtaining data. In the meantime, official publications have described the North Korean army's operations, but there were many deficiencies. Therefore, examining the details of the North Korean army is the basis of research and is also the direction to move forward.
In this paper, the 8th Division of the North Korean Army was identified. The 8th Division was expanded in July 1950, and after that, it was a major division that participated in major battles such as Andong and Sinnyeong. And even after the retreat, delaying battles were held in the Cheongcheongang area.
The 8th Division was reorganized in Chosan. Although there was a lack of equipment and firearms, the number of troops was almost completed, and short-term education and training increased combat power. After the reorganization, the 8th Division began marching southward in December 1950 for the second attack, and arrived south of the Han River in early January 1951. During the march, they ought in Pyongyang, Haeju, and Yeonan, and civil actions were also conducted against the residents. And in late January and early February 1951, they fought UN forces together with Chinese forces in Mt. Surisan and Mt. Masan.
Such detailed basic research on units below the divisional level of the North Korean Army will help to uncover the way the North Korean Army conducted war one by one at the time, and research on the Korean War will become more substantial.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

6·25전쟁을 연구하는 다양한 방법 중 북한군 연구는 필수이다. 하지만 사료 확보가 어렵기 때문에 연구 역시 어려운 상황이다. 그동안 공식간행물에서 북한군의 작전을 서술하였으나, 많은 공백이 있었던 것이 사실이다. 따라서 북한군의 세부적인 모습을 살피는 것은 연구의 기초가 되며, 앞으로 나아갈 방향이기도 하다.
이 논문에서는 북한군 제8사단을 살폈다. 제8사단은 1950년 7월 증편한 뒤, 안동과 신녕 등 중요 전투에 참가한 중요 사단이었다. 그리고 후퇴 후에도 청천강 일대에서 지연전을 펼친 사단이었다.
제8사단은 초산에서 재편성을 하였다. 장비 및 화기는 부족했지만 병력은 충원을 거의 완료하였고, 단기 교육훈련을 통해 전투력을 높였다. 재편성을 마친 제8사단은 이른바 ‘제2차 공격’을 위해 1950년 12월 남하를 위한 행군을 시작하였고, 1951년 1월 초에 한강 이남에 도착하였다. 행군 간에 평양, 해주, 연안 등지에서 전투를 수행했으며, 주민들에 대한 민사작전도 실시하였다. 그리고 1951년 1월 말과 2월 초까지 수리산과 마산에서 중국인민지원군과 함께 UN군을 상대했다.
이러한 북한군 사단급 이하 부대에 대한 세부적인 기초 연구는 당시 북한군이 수행한 전쟁수행방식을 하나씩 밝혀나가는 데 도움이 될 것이며, 6·25전쟁에 대한 연구는 더욱 내실화될 것이다.
