중년 기혼 여성의 어머니와의 관계변화경험에 관한 내러티브탐구 = A Narrative Inquiry into Middle-Aged Married Women's Experiences of Relationship Changes with Their Mothers

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 중년 기혼여성이 어머니와의 관계에서의 변화 경험과 그 의미를 이해하기 위해 수행되었다. 이를 위해 참여자의 개별적 삶의 맥락 속 의미 파악을 위해 내러티브 탐구 방법을 활용하였다. 중년 기혼여성으로서 어머니와의 관계에서 주관적으로 명료한 변화를 경험했다고 지각하는 3명의 참여자를 선정하였고, 참여자들과의 심층 인터뷰를 비롯하여 이메일, 전화통화, SNS 등을 통해 그림책, 사진, 시, 저널 등 풍부한 참여자의 이야기를 위해 추가 자료를 수집하였다. Clandinin과 Connelly의 내러티브 탐구 방법을 적용하여, 현장텍스트를 구성한 후, 중년여성의 어머니와의 관계변화 경험을 시간성, 공간성, 사회성을 고려하여 연구텍스트로 재구성하고 변화 경험의 의미를 해석하였다.
본 연구는 참여자들 경험의 의미는 삶의 흐름 속에서 <고개를 떨구는 해바라기>, <어머니의 거울에 비친 내 그림자>, <안개 속의 시소게임>, <먼 길 돌아 나에게로 가는 길> 로 나타났다. 본 연구의 결과, 중년 여성에게 있어 어머니와의 관계 변화는 가족 관계를 넘어 자아 성찰과 삶의 의미를 재정립하는데 깊은 영향을 미치고 있었다. 그 속에서 엄마됨과 나됨을 만들어가며 새로운 의미를 구축해 가는 과정임을 이해할 수 있었고, 연구 결과를 바탕으로 중년여성에 대한 상담적, 현실적 개입방안을 논의하였다.

This study aimed to understand the experiences and meanings of relationship changes between middle-aged married women and their mothers. To explore the contextualized meanings embedded in participants’ individual lives, a narrative inquiry methodology was employed. Three middle-aged married women who perceived a clear and subjective change in their relationships with their mothers were selected through purposeful sampling. In addition to in-depth interviews, supplementary materials such as picture books, photographs, poems, and journals were collected through emails, phone calls, and social media to enrich the participants’ narratives.
Using the narrative inquiry framework proposed by Clandinin and Connelly, field texts were constructed and then reconstructed into research texts by considering temporality, spatiality, and sociality. The narratives of participants revealed four core themes: The Sunflower That Bows Its Head, My Shadow Reflected in Mother’s Mirror, The Seesaw Game in the Fog, and A Long Journey Back to Myself. The findings showed that for middle-aged women, changes in the mother-daughter relationship had a profound impact beyond the family system, facilitating self-reflection and a redefinition of life’s meaning. Through these changes, the women engaged in a process of reconstructing the meanings of “being a mother” and “being oneself.” Based on these findings, the study discusses practical and therapeutic implications for counseling middle-aged women.
