In this study, We purposed to improve the present crash cushions which had been developed by KHC Highway Research Center from 1992 to 1994. Though they have played important roles in preventing drivers from accidents, they have been criticized for their hardness of installation and difficulties in management. We found two kinds of altematives for new crash cushions. One of them is consist of Butyl and Steel plate and the other High Density Poly Ethylene and Water. We have carried out computer simulations and 11 times of full-scale of car crash tests. The structural adequacies and vehicle trajectories of our alternatives were coincided with test standards. And one alternative has been able to pass in the evaluation of occupant risk criteria. During performing this study, we've been able to confidence the structural stability and the passenger's safeness of the two kinds of new crash cushions.
