다시 보는 피터 버거의 종교사회학 = Reconsideration: Peter Berger's Sociology of Religion

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study re-examines various elements of Berger’s sociology of religion that are hidden in the secularization debate. It focuses on three aspects: 1) A phenomenological/sociological perspective on religion, 2) Berger as a pioneer in market theory, and 3) the positioning of religion in modern society. This study analyzes these three aspects to focus on the influences of phenomenological sociology (in Schutz’s sense) or sociology of knowledge that permeate Berger’s entire sociology; it also reveals how Berger provides us with market theoretical insights that differ from the market theories of R. Stark et al. In addition, the three directions of deductive, reductive, and inductive alternatives that Berger suggests in relation to the direction of religion in modern society should be understood more thoroughly as theological/sociological tasks. As Berger said, today may be an era of “polytheism” rather than “atheism.” In such an age, Berger’s sociological perspectives and concepts of religion can provide important implications in the midst of the confrontation between “religion and secularism” or “religions.”
