재담의 웃음 창조 방식에 관한 연구 = 1910년대 재담집을 중심으로

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본고는 1910년대에 출간된 7종의 재담집을 논의 대상으로 삼아 재담의 웃음창조 방식을 탐구하는 데 목적을 두었다. 이를 위하여 본고에서는 ① 인간의 생리적 욕구와 원초적 욕망의 폭로, ② 병신, 바보, 무지에 대한 조롱과 비웃음, ③ 기존 질서와 가치의 전복, 새로운 진실의 발견, ④ 기발한 착상과 궤변, 그리고 문자유희 등 재담의 4가지 웃음 창조 방식을 제시하고, 구체적인 사례를 들어 논증하였다. 1910년대 재담은 이와 같은 4가지 방식을 통하여 웃음을 만들어내는 데 성공하였다. 그러나 단순히 웃게 하는 데 그친 것이 아니라, 이를 통해서 당대 우리 사회가 안고 있었던 문제점을 되돌아보게 하고 인간에 대한 보다 깊은 이해를 가능하게 한 것이 1910년대 재담이다. 비록 웃음거리로 만들어버리긴 했지만, 재담을 통해 인간의 생리적 욕구와 원초적 욕망을 냉정하게 대면할 수 있게 함으로써 인간에 대한 이해를 심화할 수 있게 하였고, 또 한편으로는 기존의 전통적 가치와 권위를 무화시킴으로써 근대로의 이행을 촉진하는 효과도 가져왔다. 재담은 신체적으로나 정신적으로 또는 지적으로 모자라고 떨어지는 병신이나 바보, 무지한 인물들을 통해서 근대로의 전환 과정에서 치부를 드러낼 수밖에 없었던 조선과 조선인의 자화상을 희화화하고 이를 통하여 문제를 교정하고자 하였다. 그러면서도 바보 같은 인물들의 심성 저변에 깃들어 있는 인간적 가치를 웃음 창조 방식으로 전화할 수 있는 길을 열어놓았다. 또한 1910년대 재담은 웃음이라는 외피속에서 기존 질서의 권위주의적 폐단과 무능력한 실상을 폭로하고 직시하도록 함으로써, 그에 대한 전복을 기도하고 새로운 가치와 진실을 찾아낼 수 있게 하였다. 뿐만 아니라 기발한 착상과 궤변, 문자유희를 통해서 삶에 활력을 불어넣고 어두운 시대를 헤쳐 나올 수 있게 하기도 하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this paper is to research the ways of creating laugh, focused on the witticism collections in the 1910"s. I present 4 ways of creating laugh as follow ; ① to reveal a physiological need and a natural human desire, ② to ridicule the dumb, deaf, blind, and fool, ③ to buck the system and establish a new order, ④ to suggest a novel idea and sophistry, including the plays on words.
The witticism collections in the 1910"s used these ways and succeeded in to create laugh. They also made a deep understanding for human being. Although they brought someone into derision, facing a physiological need and a natural human desire made us to understand the nature of human further. Making a dumb or a deaf, a blind, a fool appear, they satisfied the readers" superiority. On the other hand, they opened the way to discover the human value hidden in their naive mind also. They revealed the indictments and incompetence of the system, and suggested a clue to overthrow the system and to establish a new order. The noble ideas of witticism including the plays on words vitalized the life of people and managed their life through the dark period.
