현대 패션에 나타난 버내큘러적 디자인의 표현특성과 미적 의미 연구 = A Study on Characteristic of Expressions and Aesthetic Significance of the Vernacular Design in Contemporary Fashion

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The concept of vernacular is became one of important lifestyle in modern society. Vernacular design is applied in many design fields such as architectures, typography, advertising and art. Fashion fields are also focused on vernacular design. They apply a vernacular principle to new fashion works by changing and developing shapes and images of vernacular points in various ways dependent on designers’ wish. It shows that now vernacular is not more than rustic and boring design.
This research paper analyzed expression types of vernacular design based on various parts and meanings of vernacular design appearing in modern culture. By doing that, we intended to explore the aesthetic significance of vernacular image in fashion fields.
Vernacular design consists of conceptual distinctions that have images of indigenous, retro, popular. Since ancient times till today, vernacular objects have been together with us in various shapes. Expression types of vernacular image
dependent on modern cultural fields are as following.
First, vernacular architecture design was born spontaneously, residents wanted to solve the problems facing the various conditions themselves. For this reason the form is consisted of unprofessional and irregular. Second, vernacular visual design symbolizes the experience to reproduce the form of the near past. Also it reinterprets public image of the subculture motifs that reflect the lifestyle of the time from a modern viewpoint. Finally, vernacular product design is focused on functional elements which are more convenient to use in daily life, rather than for the pursuit of beauty and decoration to show off in the past. Therefore product design has the characteristics of the spread of the lower form of self-produced and evolution by the public.
Based on above vernacular design in various parts, our analysis results on expression-types in modern fashion are as following.
1. In the modern fashion industry has become a important element that is a source of infinite design, as well as the maintenance of ready-to-wear industry standardized on the basis of creativity in handicraft image representation techniques and the use of patterns and products. Also, developed design is based on the experience of many designers inspired by the image of the obtained various folksy traditionality.
2. The vernacular design is highlighted strongly images of the retro symbolization were accumulated for a long period of time is the design. And It is changed to the new elements while denying the hierarchy of modern design with a visual metaphor.
3. The vernacular design has a close relationship characteristics with fashion and popular aesthetics by the needs of the public. It is applied to the design of various types of clothing, such as is represented by the tendency of the human heart hippie, punk, kitsch is a cultural and social.
Vernacular design expressed in modern fashion have inner meanings as following.
First, new tradition will occur reproduced, recreated through the development of cultural traditions to create a traditional design is made​​. It means that vernacular design is sustainable design through evolutionary diversity. Second, vernacular design has an element of humanity in the modern multi-cultural society that is a friendly and warm design. It has been developed fashion with the image of human and nature friendly design, such as ecology-friendly familiarity, up cycling design. Finally, It has passed through a visual play on popular message. In addition it has the characteristics of resistance, it is possible to provoke the breaking down of the existing design limits of the range of expression is free expression.
The meaning of this study can be found the points that it attempted the aesthetic means to contribute to the contemporary fashion combine in the field of fashion design implies the elements vernacular design, and it suggests a positive way to present a new design direction on fashion design field.
