TV드라마 <작은 아씨들>에 드러난 사회적 억압의 상관관계 = Correlations of social oppression in the TV drama <Little Women>

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 글은 드라마 <작은 아씨들>에서 다층적으로 작동하는 사회적 억압에 대해 살펴보고자 한다. <작은 아씨들>은 ‘기회의 평등’이라는 허구적 담론이 사회경제적 불평등의 정당화 기제로 작용하는 신자유주의의 모순을 재현하는데, 이에 등장인물은 복합적인 억압과 폭력에 지속적으로 노출된다. 오인주를 비롯한 세 자매는 경제적, 계급적 억압을 중층적으로 겪으며 그들에게 쏟아지는 편견과 사회적 폭력을 감당해야 한다. 원상아는 폭력적인 아버지와 부재한 어머니 때문에 가부장 질서에 의한 억압과 정서적 억압이 동시에 작용하여 세 자매와는 결이 다른 피해자로 형상화된다. 한편 원상아의 가문은 푸른 난초로 대표되는 ‘정란회’라는 사조직을 통해 가혹한 폭력을 일삼고 기득권을 유지하고자 한다. ‘아버지 나무’에서만 살아갈 수 있는 푸른 난초는 사람의 생사까지도 선택할 수 있는 절대권력을 소유할 수 있게 해준다. 이는 정란회가 구축한 체제에 순응하면 ‘아버지 나무’가 선사하는 혜택, 즉 무한한 권력을 누릴 수 있지만 동시에 폭력 또한 필연적으로 세습된다는 것을 의미한다. 대다수의 인물은 세습되는 폭력은 못 본 척하고 자신의 욕망을 이뤄주는 혜택만을 갈망하며 정란회에 자발적으로 귀속된다. 하지만 세 자매는 이를 거부하고 자신만의 삶의 방식을 찾아 새로운 가능성을 찾는다. 이와 같이 <작은 아씨들>은 억압과 불평등이 지속되는 구조적 이유를 재현하고, 안정적인 체제를 거부하는 불온한 존재들을 통해 새로운 저항의 가능성을 조명하고 있다는 점에서 가치를 찾을 수 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This article examines the complex and layered social oppression in the drama <Little Women>. The fictional discourse of equality of opportunity serves as a justification for socioeconomic inequality and conceals the contradictions of neoliberalism. In response, Oh In-joo and her three sisters experience layers of economic and class oppression and must deal with prejudice and social violence directed at them. Won Sang-ah's violent father and absent mother, combined with the oppression of the patriarchal order and her emotional repression, make her a different character than the three sisters. Won Sang-ah's family uses harsh violence to maintain its vested interests through a private organization called Jeongranhae, represented by the blue orchid. The blue orchid, which can only live on its father's tree, allows it to possess the absolute power to choose between life and death. This means that power and violence are inevitably inherited through conformity to the system established by the Order. In order to fulfill their desires, most of the characters voluntarily belong to the order, but they reject it and find new possibilities by finding their own way of life. The value of <Little Women> is that it reproduces the structural reasons why oppression and inequality persist, and illuminates the possibility of new resistance through the unsettling presence of those who reject the existing stable system.
