This study, based on in-depth interviews and focus group discussions of journalists, examines how newspaper journalists in Korea understand Internet impacts on news production process of newspaper in terms of newsgathering routines and news contents. Most journalists admit that the Internet creates efficiency in newsgathering activities although it worsens workloads and delays deadlines. They also consider that exploiting the Internet as a means of newsgathering significantly lessens dependence on beats in newsgathering. In spite of this fact, some journalists argue that they would like to focus more on beats in an effort to differentiate their news sources from those in the Internet. Unlike influence on newsgathering activities, its impact on newspaper contents appears to be limited. The majority of journalists in this study point out that the traditional features of newspaper core competence, such as news quality, critical approach, or credibility, have comparative advantages against Internet news. These examinations indicate that Internet influence on newspaper journalism cannot be explained in a specific way. Instead it is varied in accordance with journalists' situations.
