This research examined the problems with current after school elementary student ballet education and applied the Hanaro teaching model, which has the potential of creating an ideal humanities-oriented ballet education, to offer as a possible solution. In addition, the study also evaluated the effects of the Hanaro teaching model on the current after school elementary student ballet education. In order to establish the purpose of the study and to find solutions to the current problems, the study went into effect in the humanities-oriented elementary school in Yongin-City, Kyunggi-Province. The research targeted the first and second grade classes, and based on the Hanaro teaching model, they participated in after school elementary student ballet education for one hour, twice weekly, for a total 12 times. The research participant, who acted as a researcher and instructor in this study, has 17 years of ballet experience and 6 years of experience as a ballet instructor. Through endless meetings and conferences, the research was conducted with other participants, which consisted of a professor and researchers of the sport pedagogy lab. The daily observational and self-reflection lab diaries, class materials, diaries from visiting parents, student’s activity materials, videos and pictures taken, and in-depth interview materials were collected, and used for data analysis, case record analysis, and inductive case analysis. Through examination by constituents and discussions among colleagues, the analyzed data that had undergone triangulations were evaluated in depth to ensure authenticity. The conclusion of this study is as follows.
First, Hanaro Teaching model, which can realize the ideal of humanities-oriented dance education, was practiced in aptitude ballet education of after school elementary students. It targeted 12 students, who are first or second grade, and composed with direct and indirect experience activities. Based on the purpose of Hanaro Teaching model, every 12 times class composed with reading, writing, observation, and activity for new topics, and it helps to students totally experience about ballet. Students experience ballet with direct and indirect teaching activities. In addition, they divided by several groups in these activities.
Second,, the result of Hanaro Teaching model is students totally understood about ballet and had interest for ballet class. In addition, they expended their experience in ballet and had dream and hope. Function, knowledge, and attitude were accomplished by Hanaro Teaching model so students had ability of self-discovery and increased their thinking power. Moreover, the effect of education was successfully spread to daily life and school life by Hanaro Teaching model so students had positive change in their life. Reciprocal action was accomplished by Hanaro Teaching model so students felt intimacy and happiness. In addition, their abilities of cooperation and socialization are increased.
Symmetry development of students’ cognitive, psychomotor, definitive domain was confirmed by results of Hanaro Teaching effect. These results are not drive only from physical education. Students make their body and heart beautiful from direct and indirect experience activities of Hanaro Teaching. In other words, they grow their body and heart by experience of spiritual and technical aspect simultaneously. Humane ballet class, which realized by Hanaro Teaching, will shed light on the way to become a whole person.
