Multimode characteristics of a flat load cavity are analyzed by a theoretical and an experimental approach A probe coupled cavity is constructed and the total existing modes are measured to obtain more uniform electric power density distribution in the loaded microwave oven cavity and to see the mode number variations with respect to the cavity size and the thickness of a load. Existence of the surface wave modes in the dielectric layer is confirmed by measuring Q and the input impedance of the cavity for these modes, which shows well agreement with the theoretical values.
