『만세보』 해동영언을 통해 본고전문학의 사회적 대응과 수용의 문제 = The Problem of social response and acceptance of classical literature through 『Mansebo(萬歲報)』 Haedongyeongeon(海東永言)

This study investigates the possibility of response by focusing on active acceptance through the historical example of 『Mansebo(萬歲報)』 Haedongyeongeon(海東永言), amid fundamental questions about how classical literature can respond to social changes. The active acceptance of Sijo(時調) revealed in 『Mansebo(萬歲報)』 Haedongyeongeon(海東永言) serves as material that externalizes the way classical literature from then and there meets the point of acceptance of the here and now, summons current problems, and seeks new ways to solve problems. Accordingly, this study sought to identify the points at which past texts were transformed and accepted by using the analysis framework of semblance and continuity, focusing on the communication structure and mode of action between the text and the reader.
The aspect in which Sijo(時調) in 『Mansebo(萬歲報)』 Haedongyeongeon(海東永言) is actively accepted in response to contemporary reality is largely categorized as recontextualization through transfer of meaning and reconstruction through conversion of meaning. First, in the case of meaning transfer based on semblance, it has the effect of recalling the current problematic situation through recontextualization of the text world. Second, the conversion of meaning based on continuity leads to the creation of a new problem-solving method through reconstruction of the text world. In this process, it was revealed that Sijo(時調) served as a social memory and a basis for common understanding, thereby contributing to forming a sense of collusion. Furthermore, it was also explored that Sijo(時調) in 『Mansebo(萬歲報)』 Haedongyeongeon(海東永言) has a learning effect by inducing the general public into a community of practice and eliciting peripheral participation.
Through this study, classical literature was criticized for being driven by social change and inclined to expand its denotation, and an essential inquiry into the acceptance of classical literature was raised as an alternative.
