4G서비스 이용 확산에 따른 커뮤니케이션 서비스 이용행태 변화 분석 = The Effects of the 4G Service on the Usage of Main Communication Services

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Using panel data for the period 2011 .2014 when mobile telecommunication users experienced rapid transition from feature phones to smartphones and from the 3G service to 4G, this paper estimates the effects of the rapid spread of smartphones and the 4G service on the usage of various types of communication services including voice call, short message, email, social network service (SNS) and online chatting service. Estimation results show that the spread of smartphones decreases the usage of traditional communication services such as voice call and short message while it increases the usage of alternative communication services such as email, SNS and online chatting. These effects of the spread of smartphones are greater for 4G service users than for 3G service users. These results imply that the spread of smartphones and the 4G service encourages the substitution of traditional communication services such as voice call and short message with alternative ones such as email, SNS and online chatting. The results also show that this substitution across communication services was substantial during 2012 .2013 but stagnated since.
