Taking an ammonia compound compressor, the flow quantities of refrigerant sucked into the compressors were measured at high pressure side and low pressure side simultancously by orifice type flowmeters to estimate the respective value of volumetric sffieiency of each compressor, As we expected. the value of the volumetric efficiency of the low pressure side compressor was estimated considerably smaller than that of the high pressure side. It may be attributed to the fact that by the low pressure side the pressure of the vapour to be sucked being very small.
the weight of the suction valve effects a marked resistance to the flow of the vapour while by the high pressure side the suction pressure is sufficiently high to reduce the effect of the weight of the valve on volumetric efficiency, the test results suggests that for the evaluation of the refrigeration capacity of a compound compressor it is required to apply exact value of volumetric efficiency corresponding to the very otherwise overestimation is inevitable, especially so when the evaporation temperature ranges as low as -61℃.
