1990년대의 복식에 나타난 낭만주의에 관한 연구 = A Study on Romanticism Expressed in the 1990's Costume

The purpose of this study was to analyze on romanticism expressed in women costume of 1990's.
For this purpose, research of literature was proceeded.
The synthetic results were as follow;
1. In form of costume, silhouette was varied to X-silhouette, fit & flare and slim & long. There were one-piece dresses with high waist line in inner line of silhouette. these were not a reflection of the Restoration period, the early 19th century, in the periodic range of reproduced costume. It covered range from the Middle Age and even to the first Empire of the early 19th century. We knew from the characteristic of sleeves and clothing way that it pursued formative aesthetics toward a tendency to romanticism partly.
2. Color reflected not only romantic mood but also century-end anxiety. The use of monochrome such as light purple, gray, black and white was increased. In contrast of color tone, the harmony among similar colors was characteristic.
3. Natural and soft materials were used such as chiffon, linen, silk, oganza, geogette and voile, besides used velvet, jacquard, lace, knit, sequin and glittering metal. In the treatment of surface processing, while the Romanticism of the early 19th century expressed elegant and precious aristocratic taste, those of 90's expressed irregular crease. This means that century-end skepticism was expressed as anti-fasion. The way to contrast transparent materials with layered was taken for the actual clothing of see-through.
4. On detail, accessory and hair style, those of the late 19th century since the Middle Age were imitated partly. Thus, in reproduction of costume toward a tendency to romanticism, those of one period were not expressed simultaneously. We consider that it reflects the mentality of people who have the century-end anxiety and expectation of the next century.
