In eighteen, nineteen centuries, there was a phenomenon of new awareness of space en rapport literature in classical Chinese and painting. New awareness of space connoted the shift of viewpoint of world. Furthermore, to catch the sense of change in literary texts is significant in some ways, for it could allow us to have a method to understand the cultural history as well as literary history in late Chosun dynasty. It is an unprecedented phenomenon that, by recognizing the natural space not as a ideal but a cultural space, various people, such as noblemen, middle-class persons and painters met together in a place and communicated one another through literature. Even lots of people widely participating in cultural activities from different classes enjoyed the natural space as entertaining and appreciating. Under such a cultural background, it is possible to understand the wide spread phenomenon of people`s frequent journeys to Mt. Kumgang and other areas of the country at that time and their consequent activities: the existences of diverse artistic works of poetry in classical Chinese, travel records and paintings. For example, Jung sun`s 「Chungpoonggyu (Dale of Fresh wind)」, Yi in-moon`s 「 Songsukwon sisahoe do (Meeting of poetry coterie, Garden of stony pine)」, Kim hong-do`s 「Song3ukwon sisa yayundo (Night feasting of poetry coterie, Garden of stony pine)」, Yi chul-whan`s 「Sumsa (Meeting at Sum dale)」, Chung soo-young`s 「Baeksa dongyoodo (Rambling together of Baek coterie)」 are paintings to display the literary spaces of poetry coterie. They are evident cases to prove the interrelation of literature in classical Chinese and painting. It implies the problematic proposal on the matter of space-recognition and new awareness of space.
