The purpose of this study was to understand the relation between affection to parents and psychological independence of university students who were in the late adolescence, as researching into affection to parents and psychological independence individually. The objectives were 364 males and females who were in the universities in Seoul and Gyeonggi, and data was collected by a questionnaire on Oct, 2006. Collected data was analyzed by using a statistical program, SPSS12.0. The results of this study were as below. First, regarding university students` attachment to parents, attachment to mothers was higher than to fathers. Second, regarding their psychological independence, conflictual independence was the highest and followed by functional independence, attitudinal independence and emotional independence. Third, from the result of analysis of the relation between attachment to parents and psychological independence, it was understood that conflictual independence, which was able to liberally release students from negative feelings in the relationship with parents, was well conducted, as their attachment to parent was well formed. Additionally, as attachment to parents was well established, the grade of functional, emotional and attitudinal independence was high as well.
