Recently, Alexander Wendt came up with a revolutionary idea of quantum consciousness hypothesis to reinterpret man, the state, and international relations from the perspective of modern physics. Wendt argues that while his previous theory of social constructivism was based upon Cartesian science, or Newtonian physics, modern physics has proven that old science no longer works in certain areas. In particular, man should no longer be considered as material objects. Wendt advances the idea that we should reexamine man's consciousness from quantum perspective, whose logic is quite different from those of old Newtonian physics.
While this article greatly appreciates Wend't courageous effort to reexamine international relations from a quantum consciousness perspective, it tries to go beyond Wendt in discussing participatory epistemology and normative theories. While Wendt is silent on those issues, this article discusses the importance of the consciousness of humankind and the role IR scholars should play in changing our world.
