The aim of paper is to clarify the limits of the grammaticalization and how to deal with counter-examples possible in Korean. To get its strong foundation, grammaticalization theory needs to set out its proper counter-examples. Grammaticalization is generally seen as a gradual diachronic process which is characterized as unidirectional. The hypothesis of unidirectionality is said to apply on all levels, the semantic (fully referential > bleached/grammatical meaning ; less subjective > more subjective), the syntactic (lexical > grammatical ; less bound > more bound) and the phonological(full phonological form > reduced phonological form). So degrammaticalization is regarded as the cline "grammatical > lexical, more bound > less bound" on the macro-level. Because grammaticalization and lexicalization are each other's opposite, some linguists consider lexicalization to be an aspect of degrammaticalization. But lexicalization is not at all contradictory of grammaticalization but the processes being accompanied by very similar syntactic and phonetic mechanism (0f grammaticalization) In Korean, we regard pota(particle > adverb), ttyamunye, nalumtyaio, ttanun (bound noun > adverb) as the examples of degrammaticalization in the aspect of decreasing boundness. But degrammarticalization seems only the phenomenon that can not be generalized because of being far fewer the cases of degrammarticalization than those of grammarticalizaion.
