국내 대학의 웹사이트 디자인에 관한 연구 = A Study for Web Site Design of Universities in Korea

Recently, as competition among educational institutes is getting fierce a lot of universities in Korea have initiated information technology strategies to differentiate themselves. Web sites have played an important role as a communication media by offering users easy, fast, and cheap accessibility to the contents each universities want to deliver.
Today, the web sites of the universities are required to reflect sensitive graphic design beyond their fundamental functions.
The purpose of this study is to suggest a direction for designing effective, creative and memorable Web Sites for universities by analyzing Web Sites design of domestic universities and universities in U.S.
In conclusion, I suggest the web sites of universities be designed as follows;
First, the web site design should be differentiated based on the thorough research and structured analysis on the image and characteristics of pertinent universities.
Second, the web site should be composed by meaningful factors which the users are familiar with. The contents of the sites should be organized in a structured and consistent way in order to help the users use the sites in a user-friendly way.
Third, the layout and interface the web site should be designed in a user-friendly way for easier and faster information search for the users.
Forth, the designer should have thorough knowledge of program and related theories such as cognitive psychology, perceptual psychology, human engineering, functionality assessment etc. With the appropriate image expression and structured utilization of the program based on the required knowledge and experience above, the designer can develop efficient interface and space on the site.
Fifth, the web site design should be evolved from plane two-dimensional design to three-dimensional design. This will help the site attract more users by applying dynamic method such as virtual reality rather than by applying simple and static method.
Sixth, the designer should use optimal number of colors to help users find the information easily. The number of the colors should be minimized not because it is intended to compete against other sites but because it is to be used to support users find the information they want.
Generally the heavy visitor of the web site of a university is the students enrolled at the programs.
However, the designer should keep in mind that there are a lot of people who are not the student of the institution and web designer should develop the site in a user-friendly way. Thus, the designer should be involved in the entire process of planning, designing, classification and integration as well as the process of layout, illustration, icon design.
The web site design should be differentiated based on the thorough research and structured analysis on the image and characteristics of pertinent universities and the designer should be involved in the entire process of planning, designing, classification and integration for the optimized web site design.
