부모의 학대와 방임이 청소년의 우울불안에 미치는 영향에서 정서이해와 정서조절의 순차적 매개효과 = Parental Maltreatment and Adolescent Depression and Anxiety: Sequential Mediation Effects of Emotion Understanding and Emotion Regulation

The purpose of this study was to examine the sequential mediating effects of emotion understanding and emotion regulation on the relationship between parental maltreatment and depression/anxiety in adolescents. Self-report questionnaires were administered to 1445 middle and high school students to assess parental abuse and neglect, anxiety and depression, and lack of emotional understanding and emotion regulation difficulties. Correlational analyses showed that all research variables were positively related. Regression analyses and tests of indirect effects using bootstrapping revealed that there were a direct effect of maltreatment affecting anxiety/depression, as well as an indirect effect of lack of emotional understanding leading to emotion regulation difficulties which then affects anxiety/depression. These results suggest that the sequential path of emotional understanding and emotion regulation may be one mechanism through which parental maltreatment contributes to an increased risk of depression and anxiety in adolescence. Based on these findings, implications of this study and suggestions for intervention were discussed.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 부모의 학대와 방임이 청소년의 우울불안에 미치는 영향에서 정서이해와 정서조절이 순차적으로 매개하는지 알아보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 1,445명의 중·고등학생을 대상으로 자기보고 척도를 실시하여 부모의 학대와 방임, 우울불안, 그리고 정서이해부족과 정서조절곤란 요인들의 점수를 측정하였다. 상관분석 결과, 학대방임, 우울불안, 정서이해부족, 정서조절곤란 요인들은 모두 유의한 정적 상관이 있었다. 직렬다중매개 검증을 위한 회귀분석과 부트스트래핑을 이용한 간접경로의 효과 검증 결과, 학대방임은 우울불안에 직접적으로 영향을 미치기도 하지만 정서이해부족과 정서조절곤란 요인을 순차적으로 경유하여 우울불안에 간접적으로도 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 학대방임의 경험이 정서이해부족을 증가시키고, 이렇게 증가된 정서이해부족은 다시 정서조절곤란을 증가시켜, 우울불안 수준이 증가할 수 있음을 의미한다. 위의 결과를 바탕으로 본 연구의 의의와 개입에 대한 시사점을 논의하였다.
