The purpose of this study is to analyze contents of biology I regarding the contents of health and disease, and examine the effects of instruction of biology I according to 7th curriculum on students` achievement, recognition of knowledge on health and disease, and their scientific attitude. A total of 285 high school students, 2nd year, participated in this study, The experimental group (n=112) received biology I instruction, while the control group (n=173) did not This study found that the topic of health and disease is dealt with in the following eight units of biology I textbooks: nutrition and digestion, circulation, respiration, excretion, stimulus and responses, reproduction and generation, genetics, and biotechnology. In addition, six kinds of textbooks include the topics of kidney diseases, artificial kidney, and drug abuse, and five kinds of textbooks include the topics of circulatory diseases (e.g, high blood pressure, a stroke, sclerosis of the arteries), smoking and health, a cancer of the mouth, a pulmonary emphysema, a laryngeal cancer, contraception, and genetically engineered growth hormones, The results demonstrated a statistically significant difference between the experimental group and the control group on the recognition of health and diseases, especially in the genetics unit, indicating higher scores of the experimental group than the control group. In addition, the results of ANCOVA indicated that the experimental group shows a higher score than the control group on students` scientific attitude, especially in the category of recognition (F29.56, p<0.05), interest (F=43.83, p<0.05), and attitude (F=17.99, p<0.05).
