가족간호휴직제도 도입에 관한 시론적인 연구 = A Preliminary Study on the Family Leave Policy

This study examines the possibilities for family leave policy in Korea. The ministry of gender equality in Korea proposed the introduction of a national family leave policy in 2005. Candidates for the 2008 presidency have promised the electorate a family leave policy during the campaign, but it has not been discussed in detail. The existing system has been divided by public and private, market labor and unpaid care labor, and work and family interests. Family leave policy is important for supporting work-life balance in society. In particular, family leave provides emotional and economic support to families with a disability or a chronically ill family member. This study conducts an analytical review of the policies of OECD countries, with special attention to the eligibility for leave, the length of leave offered, and the degree of income replacement. The assumptions of the leave policies were explored from gender, class, and family diversity perspectives. It is concluded that when paid leave is provided to employees, they will be less likely to experience problems when balancing responsibilities at home and work.
