에라스무스의 『키케로주의자』에 나타난 “모방”의 의미 = The Meaning of Imitation in Erasmus` Ciceronianus

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study analyzes the meaning of imitation in Erasmus` Ciceronianus. In Renaissance imitation was taken as a method of studying the rhetoric or the eloquence for granted. But there were indeed various views about how to imitate and what to imitate in detail. Therefore, in Ciceronianus, we can see various metaphors such as footsteps, filial image, digestive, apian and simian metaphors. Also it shows ``transformative imitation``, ``dissimulative imitation`` and ``eristic imitation`` in terms of the aim of imitation. But we can summarize Erasmian theory of imitation in three points: Eclecticism: choose the various best ones among many good models. Emulation: imitate your models in order to surpass them. Historical decorum: make your texts appropriate with your time. Among these, the concept of ``the historical decorum`` has played a pivotal role on the criticism of the Ciceronians in 16th century. According to Erasmus, the Ciceronians made great mistakes of debasing content and exalting form, thus abusing the eloquence with empty formalism. In conclusion, in Renaissance the imitation as a method of study was not so simple nor bad a concept but quite complex and great one for studying the rhetoric especially when you imitated your models in order to surpass them and when you imitated your models in order to accommodate your ages. But, for Erasmus, the Ciceronians were the ones who imitated their models in order to follow like a slave of Cicero and ignored the historical propriety.
