공공민속학 담론의 현황과 과제 = 미국 민속학계의 논의를 통해 본 한국 민속학계의 과제설정을 중심으로

국문 초록 (Abstract)

최근 세계무형문화 유산이나 무형문화재와 관련해서 공공민속학에 대한 논의가 활발해지고 있다. 이 논문은 이러한 한국에서의 공공민속학 논의가 미국학계와의 비교를 통해 보다 발전적인 의제를 제시하기 위해 작성되었다. 특히. 필자는 민속학자들의 연구윤리안 마련과 함께 연구대상 집단에 대하여 문화해석의 주체로 바라보는 시각이 필요하다고 생각한다. 나아가 공공 민속학의 다양한 가능성을 통해 민속학의 학문적 정체성을 되돌아보는 작업이 선행되어야 할 것이다.
이러한 논의를 통해 연구자는 향후 한국 민속학이 학문의 정치성에 관한 가혹한 성찰과 함께 내셔널리즘에 대한 보다 유연한 자세로 공공의 참여문제에 대하여 접근해야 한다고 생각한다. 이는 학문의 정치성에 대한 경계가 민속학의 사회적 실천에 대한 차단이 아니라 보다 신중하고 전략적인 참여를 위한 방식으로 이루어져야 한다고 생각하기 때문이다. 향후 이러한 논의들을 통해 일본을 비롯해 서구학계의 연구를 참고해 가며 한국적 토대에 맞는 공공 민속학의 의제설정이 만들어져 가야 할 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

In recent years, discussions on public folklore have become active in relation to UNESCO intangible cultural heritage or intangible cultural properties of Korea. This paper focuses on presenting more developed agendas of public folklore discussion in Korea by comparing with the United States. I mainly argued that folklore scholars of korea should prepare the guideline of research ethics, change the viewpoint of community as a research participant, and precede the work of reviewing the academic identity of folklore through possibility of public folklore.
Through these discussions, the folklore studies of Korea in the future should approach the problem of public participation in a more flexible posture with the harsh reflection on the politics of scholarship. This is because the vigilance of scholarly politics should not be an obstacle to social practice of folklore studies but should be done in a way for more prudent and strategic participation. In the future, it will be necessary to establish the agenda of public folklore in accordance with the Korean condition by referring to the studies of Western scholarship including Japan.
