도덕발달과 도덕교육: 당위에서 사실로 = Moral Development and Moral Education: From Ought to Is

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 콜버그의 탐구 과제, 즉 ‘발달의 사실이 어떻게 당위가 될 수 있는가’를 스피노자의 관점에서 새롭게 해명하는 데에 있다. 콜버그는 ‘동형론’과 ‘상보론’을 통해 이 과제의 해명에 접근하는데, 그 둘은 모두 사실과 당위가 상호 독립적이라는 관점에 입각한 시도이다. 그런데 콜버그는 도덕성 발달연구의 후반기에 새로운 발달의 국면인 7단계의 존재를 인정한다. 7단계는 인간이 우주적 질서와 합일하는 발달의 국면으로서, 그 국면을 가장 완벽하게 예시하는 것으로 지목된 스피노자의 진술에 비추어 볼 때 그것이 바로 인간의 본래 모습이다. 인간이 본래 우주적 질서와 합일된 존재, 즉 자연 안의 존재라고 보면, 사실 이외에 별도의 실체로서의 당위는 존재하지 않는다. 당위는 인간 인식의 한계로 말미암아 생겨나는 사실의 또 다른 이름일 뿐이다. 이 경우 도덕교육에서 가르쳐야 할 것은 사실(IS)이며, 그 사실은 오로지 ‘발달의 사실’에 의해서만 규정될 수 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to clarify Kohlberg’s inquiry task, ‘How can the facts of development be justified’ from Spinoza’s point of view. Kohlberg approaches clarification of this task through isomorphism and complementary thesis. Isomorphism and complementary thesis are both attempted from the perspective that Is and Ought are mutually independent. However, Kohlberg acknowledges the existence of seven stages, a new development phase, in the latter part of his study on moral development. Stage 7 is a phase of development in which self is integrated with the cosmic order and is the original form of man in light of Spinoza. Given that human beings are integrated with the cosmic order, that is, humans in nature, there is no ‘Ought’ as a independent thing. ‘Ought’ is just another name for ‘Is’ that arise from the limits of human perception. In this case, what is to be taught in moral education is the ‘Is’, which can only be defined by the ‘fact of development’.
