지리교육에서 장소학습의 의의와 접근 논리 = The nature and approach of place-based learning in geography education

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to examine the nature and approach of place-based learning in geography education. The goal of place-based learning is to overcome the limit of modern education, for example, the gap between child and curriculum. Learners have a interest on place as life-space and can understand its social meaning in this approach. The approach of place-based learning in geography education is specified in a view of scale as a relative relation in the surface of the earth. For instance, students can understand that uniqueness of a local place is connected with global forces. Typical cases of place-based learning will provide a useful lesson for geography curriculum development and instructional practice.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 지리교육에서 장소학습의 교육적 의의와 실제적인 접근 방식을 다루고 있다. 장소학습은 근대교육의 한계를 극복하고 교육의 본질을 회복하려는 시도이다. 장소학습은 학습자와 지리공부 사이의 괴리를 극복하고자 한다. 장소학습은 학습자들이 살아가고 있는 생활공간으로서 장소에 주목하고 그 사회적 의미를 해석하도록 한다. 장소학습은 공간 스케일의 관점에서 구체적인 접근 방식을 유형화할 수 있다. 즉, 생활지리학습에 기초한 장소감의 발달, 국지적 장소의 이해에 기초한 지역정체성 민족정체성 세계시민성의 형성 등과 같은 지리교육의 주제는 장소학습을 통하여 효과적으로 가르칠 수 있다. 장소학습은 의미가 부여된 지표 위의 사회적 공간을 그 외부와의 관계 속에서 사고할 수 있도록 한다. 장소학습의 구체적 사례들은 지리 교육과정 개발, 지리수업의 실천 등과 같은 교육적 관행에 유익함을 제공할 수 있다.
