CEO’s Political Conservatism and Patent Activities : The Mediating Role of Entrepreneurial Orientation

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 CEO의 정치적 보수성이 특허 활동에 미치는 영향을 살펴보고, 기업가 정신 방향성을 매개 변수로 설정하여 한국의 다양한 산업에 걸쳐 187명의 CEO를 대상으로 조사를 수행하였 다. 연구 결과, CEO의 정치적 보수성은 특허 활동에 유의미하고 긍정적인 영향을 미쳤다. 즉, CEO가 더 보수적일수록 특허 활동이 높아지는 것으로 나타났다. CEO의 정치적 보수성이 기업가적 지향성에 미치는 영향에 대해 살펴보면, 보수적인 CEO는 혁신성에는 긍정적인 영향 을 미치고, 위험 감수에는 부정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 적극성에는 유의미 한 영향을 끼치지 않는 것으로 분석되었다. 기업가적 지향성의 모든 차원(혁신성, 위험 감수성, 진취성)이 특허 활동에 유의미하고 긍정적인 영향을 미쳤다. 기업가적 지향성의 매개 역할도 살펴 보았다. 혁신성과 위험 감수성이 CEO의 정치적 보수성과 특허 활동 사이의 관계를 매개하 는 것으로 나타났으나, 진취성은 그렇지 않았다. 이 연구는 CEO의 정치적 보수성이 특허 활동에 긍정적인 영향을 미친다는 점을 입증함으로써 리더십의 신념이 기업의 혁신성을 형성하 는 데 중요한 역할을 할 수 있다는 것을 보여주었다. 또한, 기업가적 지향성의 매개 역할을 밝히며, CEO의 정치적 보수성이 혁신성과 위험 감수성이라는 조직 문화를 통해 특허 활동을 더욱 효율적으로 촉진할 수 있음을 보여주고 있다.

This study explores how CEO political conservatism affects patent activities, examining the role of entrepreneurial orientation as a mediator by conducting a survey of 187 Korean CEOs across various industries. Findings reveal that CEO political conservatism significantly and positively impacts patent activities: the more conservative the CEO, the higher the patent activities. Regarding the effect of CEO political conservatism on entrepreneurial orientation, conservative CEOs significantly and positively affect innovativeness, significantly and negatively affect risk-taking, and have an insignificant effect on proactiveness. All dimensions of entrepreneurial orientation significantly and positively affected patent activities. Regarding the mediation role of entrepreneurial orientation, it was found that innovativeness and risk-taking mediate the relationship between CEO political conservatism and patent activities, while proactiveness does not. This study contributes to the literature by demonstrating that CEO political conservatism positively influences patent activities, highlighting the importance of leadership beliefs in shaping a firm’s innovativeness. It also elucidates the mediating role of entrepreneurial orientation, revealing that CEO political conservatism can foster patent activities more efficiently with the organizational culture of innovativeness and risk-taking.
