체계/생활세계 2단계 사회이론의 비판적 재구성 : 경제체계의 민주화와 사회적 투쟁의 의사소통적 제도화

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구과제는 경험적·분석적 차원에서 체계와 생활세계의 실상(實狀)을 고찰해 보고자 하며, 그러한 고찰 결과를 토대로 삼아 규범적·당위적 차원에서 체계와 생활세계의 내적 구조가 새롭게 비판적으로 재구성되어야 할 근거와 이유를 제시하고 나아가 보다 바람직한 이상적 모델을 검토, 제시해 보고자 한다.
1) 체계의 차원: 체계/생활세계의 2단계 사회이론에게 주어진 최우선적인 과제는, 도구적 합리성에 기초한 체계적 통합과 의사소통합리성에 의거한 생활세계적 통합 사이의 ‘상호 독립적인 균형 및 경계’를 유지하는 것이다. 그러나 그와 같은 ‘균형전략’은 결과적으로 경제 체계를 생활세계의 민주화 및 의사소통적 해방기획의 달성을 위한 ‘간접적인 도구’로 간주함으로써 체계 그 자체의 급진적 민주화는 규범적 성찰의 시야에서 배제해 버리는 잘못을 범하고 있다. 이는 ‘자본주의’와 ‘민주주의’를 상호 대립적인 범주로 파악하여 자본주의를 체계에 대응시키고 민주주의는 생활세계와 연결시킴으로써 체계 내적 구조의 민주화는 민주화 기획에서 제외해 버리고 자립적인 시장 논리에 의해 작동되는 무 규범적 이념적 영역으로 고착화시켜 버리는데서 비롯된다. 이러한 오류와 한계를 벗어나기 위해서는 체계/생활세계의 ‘2단계 사회관’에 대한 비판적 재구성의 작업이 요구된다. 이는 체계의 구성 원리인 '비(非)상호작용적 화폐교환 도식'과 생활세계의 형성 원리인 '상호작용적 매개 도식' 사이에 상호 균형 잡힌 통일성을 유지하고자 시도하는 2단계 사회이론의 기본 전략으로부터 두 원리(혹은 도식) 간의 상호 비판적 결합을 통해 '비(非)상호작용적-의사소통적 사회형성의 원리'로 새롭게 구성해 내고, 이것을 체계 영역에 적용하여 그 내적 구조를 비판적으로 재구조화하려는 전략으로 이행하는 작업, 즉 방법론상의 범주적 전환의 작업으로 이해될 수 있다. 이러한 재구조화를 통해, 체계의 중심 원리인 '비(非)의사소통적 사회형성 원리'가 본래 생활세계에 국한되었던 '의사소통적 사회형성 원리'와 대립물의 통일을 이룰 경우에, 체계의 합리화는 단순히 기능적 합리화에서 벗어나 비로소 해방을 향한 발전적 과정인 '해방적 합리화'로서 비로소 드러난다. 물론 이 경우에 체계 내의 해방적 합리화는, 생활세계 영역에 고유한 '수평적 상호작용의 합리화'와는 구별되는 '수직적 상호작용의 합리화'를 가리키며, 동시에 본래 2단계 사회이론이 제시한 바 있는 체계 영역에 고유한 '기능적 합리성의 증대과정으로서 체계 합리화'와도 질적으로 다른 합리화이다.
2) 생활세계의 차원: 체계/생활세계의 2단계 사회이론은 ‘토론과 투쟁’의 두 차원이 복합적으로 얽혀 있는 생활세계와 생활세계 내 현실 정치를, 의사소통과 토론에 초점을 맞추어 일면적으로 이론화하고자 시도하고 있으며, 그에 따라 토론과 절차적 담론에 커다란 영향력을 미치거나 그러한 과정을 실질적으로 지배하고 있는 현실적 권력 구조의 차원, 그리고 사회발전의 또 다른 중심축이자 그러한 발전 과정을 비판적으로 성찰할 수 있는 해석 틀로서 기능하는 사회적 투쟁의 차원을 제대로 다루고 있지 못하다. 그러므로 체계/생활세계의 2단계 사회이론은, 끊임없는 투쟁과 전략적 갈등이 전개되는 장(場)으로서 생활세계를 또한 바라볼 수 있는 분석틀의 결여를 속히 보완하기 위해서는, 그것이 구축하고

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This research task intends to investigate the real state of affairs of 'system' and 'life-world' at the empirical-analytical dimension, and on the basis of the result of that study, plans to suggest the grounds and reasons to reconstruct critically the inner structures of both system and life-world at the normative-ontological level. Futhermore this task means to present the more desirable and ideal model of system and life-world.
1) Dimension of system: The balance strategics between system and life-world in the two-level theory of society of system/life-world gives rise to fallacy to exclude the system democratization from the objects of normative reflection, by regarding system entirely as the means for the realization of communicative emancipation and the democratization of life-world. These negative phenomena are due to making the system fixed as the non-normal sphere which is operated purely under control of the logic of market, by looking upon 'capitalism' and 'democracy' as opposing paradigms, and so allocating the former(capitalism) to system and the latter(democracy) to life-world. In order to escape from these limits and problems, it is necessary to reconstruct critically the conception of two-level society. Considering this situation, such a critical reconstruction designates the adoption of the strategics of critical re-structuralization of the inner structure of system, by applying the 'non-interactional communicative principle of formation of society' which is produced newly through the critical combination between 'non-interactional schema of money-exchange' and 'interactional schema of medium' to the domain of system.
2) Dimension of life-world: two-level theory of society of system/life-world tries to theorize life-world at which the respect of (communicative) discussion is intertwined complexively with the respect of (political) struggle, at the one-side viewpoint. On that account, two-level theory cannot deal satisfactorily with the aspect of social struggle that functions as the framework of interpretation to investigate critically the progressive process of society. To make up for this weak points of the analytical framework which cannot penetrate properly the endless struggles and strategic conflicts among the members of society in the sphere of life-world, it is required to connect two paradigms of communication and struggle reciprocally, and to construct newly 'the model of social struggle based on the communication that aims at the mutual understanding' through combining communication paradigm with struggle paradigm, instead of maintaining the separation and balance between two paradigms.
