국문 초록 (Abstract)

셰익스피어의 후기 로망스극인 『겨울이야기』는 인간의 생명주기와 자연의 순환주기를 병행시켜 남성의 파괴적인 지배의식이 초래한 생명파괴의 상황과 재생에 이르는 노정을 보여준다. 본 논문은 『겨울이야기』 분석에 생태학적 페미니즘의 비평적 패러다임이 어떻게 적용될 수 있는지를 보여주고, 또한 그 시사점이 무엇인지를 논의하였다. 작품에서 상정하는 남성의 파괴적 지배의식이 치유적이고 양육적인 여성적 원리에 의해 교정되고 보완됨으로써 남녀간의 조화로운 삶으로 나아가는 과정을 보여준다. 이러한 분석을 통해, 남성과 여성뿐만 아니라 인간과 자연의 관계가 지배와 종속의 대립적인 관계가 아니라 서로의 긍정적인 자질을 수용하는 상호보완적인 관계가 될 때 지구상의 삶은 파괴적이지 않고 생명과 풍요를 누릴 수 있는 것임을 분명히 인식할 수 있다.

Shakespeare's The Winter's Tale depicts not only the destruction of life but the process of rebirth and recreation, Paralleling the natural cycle with human life cycle. This study is an ecofeminist approach to The Winter's Tale and tries to show what can be Shakespeare' s message to us living in the age of ecological crisis. The destructive power of men in the play is tempered by the curing female principle and the patriarchal male characters are educated by nurturing maternal power. Thus it can be inferred that the message from the play is that we can thrive on the earth if only we maintain the reciprocal relation between men and women.
