This study aimed to enhance mental health management apps for college students by improving user experience(UX) through a Design Thinking approach. Qualitative methods—including focus group discussions and open/axial coding—were used to analyze students' stress factors and mental health barriers, leading to six solutions: three enhancements addressing existing limitations ‘personalized stress management’, ‘improved sensory content’, and ‘support for social interaction’ and three new features ‘immediate emotional relief’, ‘actionable behavior induction’, and ‘evidence-based activity validation’. Subsequent prototype testing revealed that a significant number of respondents believed the feature could have a positive impact on mental health management. This study has certain limitations in that it was not validated by mental health professionals such as psychiatrists or counselors, and the evaluation was conducted using a UI prototype rather than a fully functional prototype. Future research will aim to address these limitations by conducting more concrete and comprehensive studies.
