      다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Ecology is a prerequisite and sufficient condition for regional planning. There has been a mainstream of ecological-based regional planning around in the field of landscape architecture. Since it has been mainly dealt with in Korea from the perspective of landscape studies, the study of ecology from a macro perspective of regional planning is insufficient. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to examine the overall flow of regional planning based on theory and practice, focusing on ecological planning theory and ecological urbanism. To this end, we explored the academic and practical flows of regional planning, and what each of these two theories meant by having a complementary relationship. The results are as follows. First, the ecological theories began to be linked to ecological planning theory and ecological urbanism in the modern age with the pursuit of practical direction and development. Second, the ecological planning theory implies the ecological ecology itself, and it is understood that various layers are overlapped to pursue ecological structure diversity and connectivity in landscape planning. In ecological urbanism, the meaning of ecology sympathizes with the category of world view that binds man and nature together. The perception is that ecology is not only limited to environmental ecology, but also includes social, political and landscape ecology. Ecological urbanism takes the city as an organism and places importance on the consensus process in various fields in planning. Discourse on ecology that has been passed down in various fields for a long time could be limited to two large theories that do not have a clear conclusion in terms of ecological planning theory and ecological urbanism. The significance of this study is that by tracing how the meaning of ecology started from McHarg has been changed up to now, we could verify the meaning and value of ecology that is still valid from the past to the present.
