조기 영어교육이 유아의 자아개념 형성에 미치는 영향 = Effect of Early English Education on the Self-Concept of Young Children

국문 초록 (Abstract)

현 사회에서는 조기 영어교육을 받고자 하는 학습자들이 크게 증가하고 있다. 이에 따른 영어교육의 대상 연령도 점점 하향화 되어가는 추세에 따라 많은 유아 교육기관에서 조기영어교육을 실시하고 있는 것이 현실이다. 본 연구의 목적은 조기영어교육 실시로 인하여 가장 우려하고 있는 이유들 중 조기 영어교육이 유아의 자아개념 형성에 영향을 미치는지, 특히 민족적 자아개념 형성에 영향을 미치는지를 검증하는 것이었다.
연구결과 자아개념의 하위요소인 학문적, 신체적, 운동적, 사회적, 행동적, 민족적 자아와 전체적 자아 등 모든 자아개념 형성이 조기 영어교육의 실시여부와는 직접적인 관계가 없는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 조기 영어교육에 대한 효과를 보다 객관적으로 평가할 수 있는 과학적인 증거를 확보할 수 있는 연구의 필요성이 제언되었다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

In present society the number of young learner"s English goes on increasing. Nevertheless, early English education is offered mostly in preschool educational facilities without any guidelines formed by the Education Ministry. It"s generally known that at elementary schools English is demanded to be taught as a regular subject from the lower grades not as it was adopted from the 3rd grade. All this shows that the age of English learners is tending downwards and English education should be provided as a preparatory course in preschool educational facilities. At present there is no use to discuss the necessity of early English education but it"s necessary to provide early childhood educators with various teaching approaches and methods appropriate to children ability. On the other hand, we should keep in mind the possibility of the negative influence on the formation of young children"s self-concept that"s national self-concept when English is taught from the early age.
The purpose of this research through testing is to demonstrate the effects of early English education on young children"s self-concept. Analysis of effects of early childhood education on self-concept showed that there is no connection with the formation of young children"s intellectual, physical, motional, social, behavioral, national, the whole ego, etc. and the whole self-concept. In other words, we can say early English education has no negative influence on the formation of young children"s self-concept.
