This case study explores recent curricular reform related to internationalization at a private teaching-focused university in response to current globalization trends. Dynamics linked to economic and technological features of globalization reflect a neoliberal philosophy as participants seek to engage in the internationalization of the curriculum. This is manifested in profit-making education programs for international students, as well as the hiring of professors who are able to work in commercial activities in industrial fields, which seek to appeal to more students and create new sources of income. However, observations have clearly shown that the recent curricular reform geared toward internationalization does not prepare students for global citizenship. Instead, internationalization cultivates a capable workforce equipped with competent skills in a knowledgebased society, which leads to the growth of academic fields linked to industry. Therefore, internationalization brings about the expansion of a skill-focused education and thus an increase in practical skills that are reflected in the curriculum. This study is significant in challenging the silence on curriculum restructuring in response to a neoliberal ideology. The research demonstrates that curricular shifts toward internationalization in Korea have taken a path that is very similar to global trends.
