어휘에 대한 한국 아동의 메타언어적 인식 발달 연구 = Korean Children's Metalinguistic Awareness of Vocabulary

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study has two aims : to define operationally the concept of 'metalinguistic awareness of vocabulary' and to survey the developmental characteristics of Korean children's metalinguistic awareness of vocabulary. These two aims are related to each other, the former being the interpretational frame to the latter and the latter verifying the validity of the former.
To define the concept of 'metalinguistic awareness of vocabulary' operationally. I approach it from the perspectives and systems of linguistics. As Ogden & Richards(1923) have suggested, language sign has mechanism of signification between symbol, reference and referent. I propose that metalinguistic awareness of vocabulary involve the reflection to the mechanism of signification. Five categories of metalinguistic manipulations are drawn theoritically from the triangle of sign. They are ① manipulation of symbol, ② manipulation of reference ③ manipulation of symbol-reference relation ④ manipulation of symbol-reference-referent relation and ⑤ manipulation of reference-referent relation. These categories can be found in the precedent studies spreadingly, except the fifth category.
To survey the developmental characteristics of Korean children's metalinguistic awareness of vocabulary, 14 subjects from the age 3:0 to the age 8:9 were examined. The results are:
① manipulation of symbol emerges in 4 years and is well developed over 5 years.
② manipulation of reference emerges in 4 years and is developed gradually to the school age.
③ manipulation of symbol-reference relation emerges in 6 years.
④ manipulation of symbol-reference-referent emerges in 5-6 years.
⑤ manipulation of reference-referent emerges in 3 years, but high-arbitray task is performed in 5-6 years.
In this study, 5 categories of metalinguistic awarenesses of signification are verified in the investigation and the developmental characteristics of Korean children in these categories are defined.
